SnackTime With Jen: S’mores Shake, September 18th

Although I love fast food, I try hard to avoid it. I like quick take out options but try to keep them healthy, with a side of fries of course. Well that ends now. I just had a shake at Chick-fil-A that was so good I could barely contain myself. So for Fast Food Friday, I’d like to introduce you to my new favorite sippable dessert, the S’mores Milkshake and her caffeinated little sister, the S’mores Frosted Coffee.

The S’mores Milkshake is a seasonal, hand-spun treat made with their signature creamy Icedream base. It’s similar to a vanilla soft serve. They then add toasted marshmallow syrup, chocolate shortbread and graham cracker crumbles. This is all topped with marshmallow flavored whipped topping and of course a cherry. After a long, satisfying first pull, it’s cold, sweet and incredibly satisfying. I couldn’t taste the chocolate at all, but that nostalgic marshmallow forward flavor is to die. And the tiny bits of crumble do make it through the straw for a welcome crunchy accent. I literally slurped up every single sip punctuated by that kid friendly obnoxious whoosh sound at the end. Wow. I was shook.

On a return visit I sampled the S’mores Frosted Coffee. This luscious drink takes the brand’s signature cold-brew coffee, blends it with Icedream, and swirls in marshmallow syrup and crunchy graham bits — creating a smooth, caffeinated twist on the limited time dessert. Now you know I’m not a coffee girl. (I was told that it’s an acquired taste and I’m planning to never add it to my bingo card.) So imagine my surprise when I liked this drink! I guess the overpowering (in a good way) sweet mixins made this beverage infinitely drinkable and delish. Two caffeinated thumbs up.

An on a less impressive note, I did order their new Chicken & Waffles Sando. I opted for the spicy chicken version sandwiched between two thin, maple flavored floppy waffles with a few sad slices of applewood bacon and a honey butter spread. A warm, maple syrup sidecar accompanied my lunch. The chicken was great of course, but the handheld outers were mid at best. I rarely diss a menu item as Jen’s Little Black Book focuses on positive content, however for me this was a skip.

You probably know that Chick-fil-A’s slogan is “Eat Mor Chikin,” but I’d have to add that their milkshakes rock. S’more is more! Enjoy.
