When I was growing up we didn’t have a ton of knick knacks around the house. My parents weren’t minimalists, but they weren’t uber collectors either. When I wanted to buy something for my room, I was sternly told that we don’t need more dust collectors. Ouch. Now at the tender age of Nobody Puts Baby In A Corner, I have a thing for dust collectors and I’m happy to be roommaxing at present. And apparently this vibe is trending…

You probably know that I moved earlier this year. It was time for a change and sadly my apartment had not appreciated all that much. So it was either demolish and deconstruct and live through the dust, or move and decorate. The choice was simple. Now with money in the bank, I can maybe one day eventually meet my financial goals later AND have the pleasure of furnishing a new space exactly the way I want now, decor and all. And I do mean heavy on the decor, with a side of furniture.

When I started this project, I was determined to love every single thing I brought into the space. From a crazy Bioplastic Vessel from Caroline Zimbalist offered at ABC Home, to an antique movie camera from Mantiques Modern, I vetted, studied, pondered and only pulled the trigger on objects that were wondrous, fun, whimsical or cool, in my humble opinion. Like the heart tumbler from Rosemary Home in the East Village or the gorgeous Anke Drechsel embroidered giraffe from John Derian. Things I could not possibly live without. And the results have been spectacular, according to me. Especially my over the top crazy green wallpaper from Osborne & Little. You either hate it, or you’re me– and I’m totally cool with that!

For instance, I fell in love with felt lemons in an amazing store in Paris called Muskhane. And then I saw they had felt bowls. And I think the idea of a bowl of lemons is so much fun because when life gives you lemons… anyway that purchase was a no brainer.

And then a sidecar of lifelike radishes was too cute to pass up! And don’t get me started on their veggie bowls… maybe next trip?

On PTO earlier this year I was on the hunt for unique decorations Out East and hit the jackpot big time. I found a group of Dr. Seuss looking vases that captured my heart, along with one of a kind bookends at Comerford Collection in Bridgehampton and a tall, fabulous hand blown glass vase at E-E Home in Amagansett. What a stunner!

And then this puzzle pieces brass number courtesy of The 1818 Collective in Sag Harbor caught my eye and I couldn’t stop playing with the sliding chunky threesome– art should be entertaining! So I knew this gem was coming home with me.

Steadily the look and vibe of the apartment came together and now, save for a few wall additions, I am almost done. Which is great because the budget has been maxed along with the decor–gasp! The window treatments are up, and the rugs have been ordered. It’s been so exciting to shop with creative abandon to curate the apartment of my dreams.

So bring on the shammy cloths, Mom and Dad. My house is now chock full of vases and books, flowers, a cool watering can and an I can’t live without Cherry Bomb Sculpture that is a vintage gumball machine housing mini disco balls from House of Savage. So fierce. I can’t even! And although I’ve been on the path to collect interesting objects, I never plan for any of them to collect dust.
