I am always taking notes. Reminders. To dos. Future blog titles I could use Like Power Struggle having to do with my international charger that refused to power both my phone and my fan at the same time even though it had ample ports. Ugh. And trying to use the expression “X” is the black turtleneck of… sometime. Or words you only learn when you’re exposed to the necessity of them. Like nosegay and ramekin or cornichon. But I don’t have a working title for that one yet. From Jewish To Shoeish and My Favorite Emotional Support Burger. Yeah, still working on those too.

I keep a running list of restaurants I want to try in various cities for upcoming trips and fantasy getaways like Fat Ronnie’s Burger Bar downtown, The Blonde Shallot for chicken salad in New Jersey, and Howlin Rays for a massive chicken sando in Las Vegas. And the funny thing is that I’ll probably make it to the Vegas spot before the others even though they are local because take a good look at this sucker… (Allen, you in??)

I have measurements of a wall for a future piece of art I have not yet found, but I’ll know it when I see it. Grocery store lists and specialty items I’ve run out of. I snap screenshots of things I want like that cool candelabra from CB2 that’s on sale but might not be when I look again so maybe buy it now? Will the new apartment ever be finished I whisper knowing that I’m edging every so slowly toward a yes. (So I bought it, by the way, for better than 50% off and I love it! It’s very daylight goth I think. Is that a thing??)

I had a note not to forget to pack the mini fan for Paris in big letters on my packing list because it was going to be 100 degrees. (And I remembered it and it was!) L’Industrie Pizza is opening on Columbus and 66th I scribbled. Yay. But I have to check back in a month to see if they’re open because maybe that was an online foodie rumor too delicious to be true? Heartwrenching quotes like, “Some silences arrive with more weight than you are prepared for.” Isn’t that just a wow line?? And stories that remind me of sentimental times I might not want to share. Things I need to commit to memory but don’t because I know I have them stored… like the four-digit code on each of my four Amex cards– don’t try this at home, kids! For the life of me I cannot keep them straight. A birthday I jot down of a new friend and notes from a conference with follow up tasks. I am… all filled up.

I have edited these lists and notes and remembrances. But I like liking more things! And apparently I can go over the fill line without much trouble. It doesn’t mean I’m going to do all the activities, or dine at all the restaurants or buy all the wishes and wants on the lists. It’s more like mental favorites. A collection of ideas and thoughts and plans and destinations and goals, and yes, material objects.

And all of this searching and looking and listing makes me feel alive and like I’m participating actively in my passions. There are a plethora of options and focus points and goals that need to be fed and tended and monitored.

Some of the saved post-its are things I’m unsure about. Like sweaters in the summer. I’d love to, but I fear I’d melt. With climate change what it is, I don’t even dare wear long sleeves until deep into September, but they keep showing the cool girls running around in sweaters with jeans– another enemy of summer. So I save a pic to ponder the weight of summer and then question whether or not I’d wear a white sweater in fall? Probably not. But maybe The Weight Of Summer is a good blog post name– like when you do a life in review before the official back to school season starts in late August. Hmmm. I make another note.

I wanted an ear cuff, which seems to be such a me item but I went to the wrong store and didn’t have time to hit the right one. But I scored a cool cuff at the wrong store from their limited selection and now I can cross that item off my list. But annoyingly I’m still thinking of the options at the store I missed. Is there a better one? Success and happiness all in one with a shiny object that didn’t break the bank. I should take the win. But it’s still a cognitive debate.
