SnackTime With Jen: Board In Aspen, November 6th

If you’re a serious skier or snowboarder, you know that the powder Out West is incredible. But have you ever visited those locations in the off season? Me neither. So I was a lucky duck to attend a conference in Aspen for a few days of education, networking and of course snacking. As is my usual, I did a deep dive into the restaurant and shopping scene pre-trip to absolutely maximize my time. And it certainly paid off. I discovered a great little place called Meat & Cheese that specialized in World Farmhouse– their take on locally sourced, sustainably raised ingredients to make from scratch favorites for locals and visitors.

When we entered, the intoxicating smell of chickens roasting was unbelievable! Those cooking birds had the most excellent aroma. And we weren’t all that hungry when we walked in, but we were starving after seeing those cluckers going around on the spit. So it was a given that we order a little fowl.

Also impressive was their exceptional cheese case and pantry items. A feast for the senses for sure.

The selection was great for a restaurant with so many oils and spices.

Known for their catering boards with cured meats and cheeses, their sit down offerings included a full bar, giant overstuffed sandwiches on housemade ciabatta and of course meat boards.

Mouths watering by the time we took our table, my friend Sari and I each ordered a half Rotisserie Chicken Board that came with roasted potatoes, and lightly dressed seasonal greens. The portions were both enticing and enormous! The chicken was incredible. So moist and fork tender. The greens were light and lemony and the potatoes could not have been crispier. The meal was outstanding. We even boxed up the leftovers to enjoy the next day as we were both homebound on two flights apiece and the travel meal was a great idea.

Not ones to ever skip a good dessert, we shared the Salted Chocolate Chip Cookie Board. When we entered we saw trays of these babies right out the oven so our expectations were high.

And the dessert board did not disappoint. We received two warm cookies topped with maldon salt, and house made vanilla milk for dipping. Sari isn’t even a huge ccc fan and she was blown away. The melty chocolate was messy, gooey, and fun. We loved every bite.

If possible I always try to buy some sentimental souvenirs from a trip and I had my eye on this huge olive wood serving board and a hand forged knife. But I didn’t check luggage so the knife was out and they don’t ship so I had to leave the board behind too, Sigh.

Meat & Cheese is an amazing restaurant for lunch or dinner. Jen’s Little Black Book just loves a local place that serves cozy favorites packed with flavor. So if you find yourself in Aspen and you’re skiing in the winter, rafting in the summer, or exploring in the off season, you’ll enjoy being “Board” at Meet & Cheese!
