With all the new frozen yogurt shops popping up all over town, it’s hard to keep track of what’s good. Enter Mimi’s. This Australian import took a whole year to perfect their Fro Yo recipes using fresh ingredients and real purees. Their yogurt is made using Greek yogurt, milk, Kefir and a small amount of cane sugar, according to their website. And their toppings bar has gotten raves. I absolutely had to check it out.

So on a super rainy Sunday, I ventured out with a friend to visit their SoHo store hoping that the spritzing weather would keep curious taste testers away. Oh how wrong we were. And being in the hospitality business, Mimi’s hands out umbrellas to unprepared lineholders. I guess this isn’t their first rodeo. How nice!

We waited about twenty minutes before we were inside and able to get a view of the setup. It is self serve and you’re able to try a bunch of flavors if you like. We both opted for the original Tart after sampling Coffee, Chocolate, Vanilla and Strawberry Banana. At $1.20 per ounce most people ahead of us online had cups that were overflowing! We had just come from lunch so we weren’t about to filler up.

The toppings bar was exactly as described… varied and fabulous. The Raspberry was sourced from Oregon and the Alphonso Mango was from India. The Matcha was sourced directly from Japan and was ceremonial grade, and the Chocolate was quality Guittard. Some of the most outrageous fixins were huge hunks of rich Chocolate Fudge Brownie, large Cinnamon Roll Tidbits and Cookie Dough by the scoop! They also had fresh Peach Slices, Chocolate Chips, Strawberry Chunks and more.

We didn’t go nuts. I took a reasonable amount of the Tart, added the amazing Raspberry Sauce and finished with Chocolate Chips. The place was jammed and we waited a minute or two for another group to finish before we found cramped seating, happy to escape the damp day and enjoy our treat inside.

It was delicious! The yogurt was light, smooth and clean. The sauce was sweet and refreshing but not overpowering and the chips added a welcome crunch. We loved it. In the eternal words of my Mother, “Since when do you have to be hungry to have a cookie?” I believe the same holds true for frozen yogurt.
