My good friend Marc and I hadn’t seen each other in a long time so a catch up lunch was long overdue. I picked newcomer Cuerno in Midtown Manhattan and was excited to check out this upscale Mexican steakhouse. It was a gorgeous day so even though the inside of the restaurant was opulent, we opted for an outside table.

The service was on point and our waiter immediately graced our table with a basket of housemade chips with five different dipping sauces. Our fave was the mild one that was served warm with a mild smokey flavor. We were off to a great start.

They had a price fixed lunch option so we decided to try their samplings and share the choices. We started with the Verduras al Grill– charcoal roasted veggies with a flavorful dipping sauce and we loved the tender garden varieties presented. We also shared a super fresh Tostada de Ceviche de Robalo– brimming with a diced mix of sea bass chunks, celery, carrots, red onion, and lime perched on a crunchy tostada. So fragrant and good.

For our mains we shared the outstanding Salmon al Ptquin– grilled salmon in a wonderfully tangy salsa with cooked snap peas, and grilled pearl onions over a bed of creamy rice and the Milanesa de Res– a breaded beef tenderloin alongside a house salad with thin sliced cukes and a cool herb aioli for dunking. We loved both!

Dessert was included in our Comida Corrida so we shared the Frutas de Temporada– a seasonal mixed fruit plate with super creamy but tart vanilla whipped cream with a crunchy crushed pistachio topper and the Pay de Planto– a pie-like slice with vanilla-infused cream, fresh banana chunks, and a thick and gooey caramel drizzle with sweet pecans. Marc loved the slice and I was fixated on the vanilla whipped cream.

Was it as good as La Hacienda? 😊
