I’d been dying to try the candy store downtown in NYC called Lil Sweet Treat since they opened. I was captivated by their amazing selection of globally sourced goodies from Sweden, Spain, Belgium, Germany, France, the Netherlands, Australia, Brazil, and so much more.

Although I’m certainly a chocolate person and never went crazy over candy even as a kid, all the sweets looked so fresh and fun and colorful that I was excited to see what all the hype was about. I heard the lines were crazy but I planned to hit their Seventh Avenue shop anyway. As luck would have it, months went by and I just couldn’t get downtown to check them out. And then I was away. And then I was traveling for work. And then the weather got too cold. Long story longer, I never made it…

Until I went on their website and realized that they opened a midtown location right under 30 Rock! So if you take the entrance right near the gorgeous and statuesque Rockefeller Center Tree (yes, THAT tree) adjacent to the J.Crew store, trample down the stairs and walk west toward 6th Avenue underground at the getting better every time I visit symphony of foodie favorites (Ace’s Pizza, Black Seed Bagels, Blue Ribbon Sushi Bar, Chip City, Daily Provisions, and more!) you’ll find Lil Sweet Treat at the end of the south hallway. And when I visited on a Wednesday right before a business lunch in the area, I was the only customer in the whole shop. OMG, yay. I had the entire candyland to myself.

I immediately loved the simple design and self serve situation. So you grab a lil resealable bag and a plastic scooper and help yourself to whatever you like! With clear bins and big easy to read labels that detail the country of origin, texture of the treat, and the flavor profile, it’s easy to navigate your individual candy quest. And the selection there is amazing.

So obviously I filled a goodie bag with all the sweets that I liked and rushed home after my lunch where I had a lil party for one sampling all the fun shapes, colors and varieties. And yeah, it gave me a lil sugar high. I loved every single candy I tried. Basically I crushed this challenge! These were my faves…

The Strawberry Dreams were in fact dreamy. Puffy. Sweet. Delicious. Light strawberry taste. Terrific.

And the Sour Dutch Piggies were so chewy and firm. They could be addictive in that sweet strawberry flavor and weren’t all that sour.

Golden Hours looked like the peach sours I favor, but these were stretchier and had a mild, pleasant mixed fruit taste, not at all peach forward. Another winner.

The Mini Octopus Foam Bubs were divine! As were the Fruity Rings that were so refreshing.

My favorite overall pick was… drumroll please… the Pink Mini Octopus Bubs. They were just chewy enough, not too sweet and fun to eat. The green and yellow ones were not as good in this shape, so beware if you grab a scoopful of octos. Pink really rocks. (On Wednesday I ate pink!)
