SnackTime With Jen— Paris Neighborhood Nosh, November 6th

For Season Three of Jen and Michael Spend A Month In Paris, we immediately jumped right into action. This was a new apartment, but we knew the area pretty well already since the last two years we lived just ten blocks south in the Marais. Thrilled to be just a hop skip away from one of Paris’s most celebrated boulangeries in the 10th, we waltzed over to Mamiche Traiteur (in French traiteur means caterer) just before 4pm for our first meal. We visited the original Mamiche bakery a few times last year. You might remember my post Choux Shopping which described the most fabulous Choux (cream puff) pastries ever! If you missed it or need a refersher, here you go… https://jenslittleblackbook.com/2023/11/22/snacktime-with-jen-choux-shopping-november-22nd/

This branch of the Mamiche family opened just a year ago but we never made it there and all of the stores have different menus. Yum. We were thrilled to enter just before closing time. They had only a few items left since it’s incredibly popular but we were still excited by the mouthwatering selections. After a quick deliberation, we shared a Tuna Salad on a thin brioche bread they call Carre Paind de Mie. This baby had a huge scoop of savory tunafish, bits of egg, chunks of scallion, radicchio, watercress, and a swipe of mayo and a huge Veggie Sando on grilled focaccia that had tender roasted cauliflower, sweet grilled onions, radicchio, tangy goat cheese and a generous swipe of herby pesto.

Each sandwich was incredible in its own right. The tuna was perfectly balanced and we loved the bread and the crunch of the chunky scallions. The Veg was warm and toasty with a wonderful chew and flavor. We also got a side of the shredded celery root salad that added more veggies and thin slices of radish accented with a mustard dressing. We polished off half of everything, saving the rest for later in the day when we broke for our dinner hour which was like lunchtime back home.

Of course we didn’t skip dessert, silly. We got the Salted Rye Chocolate Chocolate Chip Cookie that was super fudgy with salty flakes on top and the simple but insane Marble Swirl Pound Cake that was absolutely addictive. We fought over the last bite of cake but only put a dent in the cookie. It was so rich and dense. Then as hunger struck before bed when jet lag kicked in, the cookie did wonders to power us through the rest of the workday!

We refer to our neighborhood go-to spot as MT short for Mamiche Traiteur. Which is perfect because after we demolished every single morsel, that’s what was left over… nothing. We were Emm-Tee! Mamiche draws a huge crowd from doors open with their breakfast sando offerings to lunch with their salads, breads and savory options. MT is the perfect place for a Paris snack any time of day.

Everyone I know just loooves a little snack. Especially me.
