More Food News, August 19th

The most amazing things are trending in food news. The first item might just be the greatest invention of our time– especially for those living in tight quarters where space is at a premium. Hello, New York City?? This absolute genius solution to snacking comes in the form of a new collab called the Kitchen Bed and the results are just stunning. Can’t you just picture yourself watching a movie and reaching above your head without even having to pause Shawshank to pop a bag of Orville Redenbacher into the microwave that’s situated right above your pillow? How convenient! And the soothing hum of the refrigerator units near your feet would likely just lull you to sleep while the temperature controlled settings would keep you cool and comfortable? Sign. Me. Up.

And I just read about an outrageous 3D printer called The Cocoa Press that makes chocolate. And not your standard, run of the mill flat bars either. Oh no. They can produce roses, shapes, towers, cakes… anything you can dream up this printer can kick out. Where has this sucker been all my life??

Another brilliant food revelation is this soon to be released new flavor of Campbell’s Soup. I swear it’s like right out of Willy Wonka. I’m guessing Violet Beauregarde might even ditch her gum for a bowlful of this wintertime winner. Right, Violet??

Not usually being one who favors sweet and salty flavors mixed together, I was an early stage rejector of popcorn mixed with candy in the movie theater even as a young child. It was just a no! Why would I have wanted salt on my M&M’S? So of course I have a complicated reaction to these Pancake Flavored Lays Chips. Just why? And the same is true for the Hostess Popcorn Flavored with Twinkies. I just can’t imagine mouthing a fistful of cakey frosting doused kernels. Hard pass. Are you with me?

I know that crops depend so much on the weather and due to global warming, it’s a crap shoot to see if the plums are sweet this year or the peaches are mealy. So far this season the watermelon has been so juicy but not sweet. I hate dragging home a big tub of good lookin fruit home to only be disappointed about the flavor. That robust color had me at hello. It’s like false advertising. So you can understand why this bit about cantaloupe just killed me…

Our final item in food news comes from The New Yorker Magazine comic section and shows imaginative new flavors of ice cream for kids in Bribe, Placate, Reward, Distract, Pacify and Shut up! What they don’t know is that adults need all those flavors, too.

Enjoy your summer Monday. Maybe have a double scoop later today in your favorite flavors of Reward and Distract? I wonder if either of them goes well with hot fudge and whipped cream? Yum.
