SnackTime With Jen— Smash & Grab, August 7th

Welcome to SnackTime With Jen. This midweek morsel is a small taste of something fun. Topics range from food (of course) to fashion, amusing little discoveries both locally and abroad, and a variety of interesting intel too tempting not to share. So let’s get snacking…

The great thing about New York City is that there are a gazillion takeout places that do not frown upon the concept of grab and go. In fact, they love that you’ve decided to take your meal outside of their establishment. They save on space and you’re out the door. In the case of Petit Chou, I was expecting a long line but was deliriously happy to find an empty shop. I counted my blessings and immediately ordered the Breakfast Croissandwich to stay… and to go, as I was planning to enjoy the first bite in house before I packed up and was on my way. I also ordered a Double Chocolate Croissant and a Chocolate Chip Cookie to go.

This unique Laminated Croissant Sandwich hinges on a super buttery, flaky croissant base that has been split open, smashed and rolled to toasty perfection and then gets stuffed with a soft cooked scrambled egg, a thick layer of American cheese, and a mountain of crispy, salty bacon cut precisely to cover the cheese. The result is a breakfast bonanza of flavors that keeps the integrity of the croissant in check! One bite and you know you’ve tasted something amazing.

The aioli on the side was a nice touch, but honestly the sandwich needed nothing to enhance the already savory layers. And it was filling, too. I was only able to eat half in the first sitting. It was so satisfying.

Once I was home, I was able to carefully inspect and taste the remaining two treats. The Double Chocolate Croissant was outrageous! They piped chocolate cream into the middle and rolled the whole thing up like a sweet burrito. Wow. The CCC was crispy on the outside and filled with melty milk chocolate chips. Delicious.

Petit Chou is a tiny little shop kicking out some sweet and some savory snacks that are truly incredible. Jen’s Little Black Book is always on the move and Petit Chou let’s you tell your story walking. If you happen to be in the neighborhood, definitely stop by to enjoy some buttery baked bliss.

Everyone I know just loooves a little snack. Especially me.
