SnackTime With Jen— Getting Slushied, December 6th

Welcome to my newest feature, SnackTime With Jen. This midweek morsel is a small taste of something fun. Topics range from food (of course) to fashion, amusing little discoveries both locally and abroad, and a variety of interesting intel too tempting not to share. So let’s get snacking…

I heard about the tiny pop up of Edith’s on the subterranean floor at Nordstrom’s flagship store on West 57th in Midtown Manhattan and had to try the offerings for myself. A Frozen Hot Chocolate Slushie with tahini in it? A Bacon, Egg, and Cheese on a bagel with the added crisp of a latke patty? Was I being punked? This place had my name written all over it.

So on a rainy weekday I jogged over there during lunch to find the place pretty empty. I was expecting a line and a crowd. Score! I ordered the Slushie and the Sando and sat in the quiet area with tables and chairs amongst the cute kiddie clothes waiting for my lunch while I slurped on this thicker than I expected nutty tinged chocolate drink. It was certainly different– super filling and just sweet enough with an edge of saltiness.

Then the Sammie arrived. Wow. The everything bagel was tiny compared to the fillings that dwarfed the bread. The omelet was perfectly cooked, the Cooper’s American cheese sharp as described, the bacon crisp, and the hashbrown surprise in the middle was soft and tender. I loved it. What a great pop up in a retail store! Everyone needs to refuel while shopping, right?

Edith’s Sandwich Counter is only in Midtown until Jan. 3rd so head on over if you can before this pop up disappears like the holiday sales. (If you can’t make it, Edith has brick and mortar stores in Tribeca and Brooklyn.) The Slushies and Sandos here are certainly snackworthy and Jen’s Little Black Book approved Besides, what’s better than getting slushied at lunch?!
