SnackTime With Jen— Scarr’d For Life, June 14th

Welcome to my newest feature, SnackTime With Jen. Shorter than my long format storytelling blog, this midweek morsel is a small taste of something fun. Topics range from food (of course) to fashion, amusing little discoveries both locally and abroad, and a variety of interesting intel too tempting not to share. So let’s get snacking…

My friend Brian Rich who went to college in Philly and currently resides in Tallahassee Florida happens to know a thing or two about New York pizza. (When you know, you know.) And when he recommended Scarr’s on the Lower East Side, I had to try it. Scarr’s is the only pizza shop in NYC that mills their own flour. (In the basement no less!) Located at 22 Orchard Street, they feature Original, Sicilian, or Grandma style and Vegan options as well. Guests are encouraged to go wild with the toppings. They offer basil, Italian chicken sausage, meatballs, fried eggplant, cremini mushrooms, and fresh garlic among others. On a spring Saturday I shared the Sicilian with mushrooms, a slice of Original and a pepperoni. Helllllllo lovahs! The mushroom slice had a nice saltiness and great crust. But the Original and the pepperoni were insane. Their flour is just so light that the triangular slices were super thin, airy, crispy and delicious. We loved the fabulously crunchy edges and the sweet sauce to cheese ratio. Both were big winners.

Scarr’s is a serious pizza shop for diehard lovers of this New York City staple. No matter where you live or where you’re visiting from, you’re going to be a fan. So is this sauced up crustable Jen’s Little Black Book-Worthy? I’d say it’s a slice of heaven.

I’m dishing it out each week in my newest feature, SnackTime With Jen cause everyone I know just loooves a little snack. Especially me.
