Many years ago during a business trip to Chicagoland, a friend introduced me to The Weiners Circle. According to their website it’s an, “Iconic hotdog stand on the north side of Chicago serving up high quality street food with a side of insults.” They even boast, “Now open for Curbside Abuse.” Why? Well because this popular Lincoln Park neighborhood grab-and-go’s surly waitstaff is as famous for their take no crap attitude as the dogs are themselves. I never wrote about my experience there, but I never forgot it either. (And for those paying super close attention, yes, this meal was during the same trip as the magestic meal of meals in my post from two weeks ago, The Meat Up!) https://jenslittleblackbook.com/2022/04/14/the-meat-up-april-14th/ (Just showing off my diversity by going high and low end and still loving both experiences!)

Anyway, a recent business trip found me right back in the Chicago Loop, and I couldn’t help but to give into the craving. Into an Uber I went for the mile ride north to once again visit hotdog heaven with the added perk of a nasty gatekeeper… and some hilarious anti Trump/Pence advertising!

When summoned to the front of the line, I went for the classic Vienna Red Hot with the works my style– tomato, mustard, pickles, relish, and celery salt on a poppy seed bun and a one-size-feeds-a-family-of-four single order of Cheese Fries. I took a little heat by ordering in my New York accent, and I was criticized for traveling all this way for a damn dog. Also I was warned not to be impatient! Ha! So for a whopping ten bucks and a good natured laugh, I could barely lift my tray to an empty picnic table out front. Let’s say it together… Oh my Lord & Taylor! Yum.

My meal was just as delicious as my first taste years ago. The dog had great snap with just the right salty bite. The fries were smothered but still crispy and no, I barely made a dent in the heaping portion. I sat outside enjoying the chilly spring day, thrilled that I was able to squeeze this experience into my packed schedule.
