Hole Lotta Love, June 7th

I found it odd a few years ago when restaurants started making extremely colorful foods just to grab the Insta spotlight. Rainbow bagels and unicorn grilled cheese sandwiches? Glow in the dark sprinkle cookies and neon tacos? The last thing I really need is another reason to eat more carbs. My relationship with bread used to be fairly limited. I never had a gluten intolerance, but my bod is way happier when I stick to protein and veggies and ditch the sugar and the wheat. (My inner Goddess, however, has a complete shit fit.) The problem is that when I do partake of the floury goodness, I’m just so happy that I wanna have another bite, and then another. It’s time to admit that I’m an addict. I have become a post-Covid bagel junkie.

“Hello, my name is Jen and I’m a white flour worshipper.” Hiiiii, Jen.

What I’d croon to those fresh out of the oven bagels above is, “You’ve been cooling… And baby I’ve been drooling.” Led Zeppelin probably sang it better.

But I have plans to reform my evil ways. My goal this month is Ditch the Dense Dough Balls and commit to cauliflower. (Maybe we’ll date first before I make it official though.) I’m actually planning to give up mini crunchy pretzels as an occasional afternoon snack, eliminate the everything crackers and just eat the cottage cheese, and I’ll pack up the pita chips and have veggies with the hummus. I’ll “86” the Fairway focaccia (ugh that one hurts) and chuck the chocolate chippers. I will break up with the brownies and can the corn. It’s so hard to live with an addiction, but I know kicking carbs to the curb is a good thing, even if it’s only temporary. This will require a hole lotta dedication, but I know I can do it. And maybe somewhere over the rainbow (bagel) in the not too distant future, I’ll be just a little bit healthier too!

Ode to my bagel:
“Since you’ve been gone…I can breathe for the first time!”
(Kelly Clarkson said it first, but I think her context was a bit different.)
