Life · What The F*ck? · You're Gonna Love This

A-Ha! Moments, January 5th

Like all of you I have a period of time during the day when I need a break and love to do something mindless and fun. New York City is such a dynamic environment that I enjoy walking everywhere I possibly can if time and proper footwear allow. But when I’m in my home office and need a change of pace from deal calls, networking and balancing my books, I tend to scroll late afternoon to see what’s happening in the world, clue into a delicious dish or restaurant and make some mental notes about life. Often times I come across something noteworthy where I snap a pic or earmark the content for an upcoming post. Always on the lookout for new material, I’ve pieced together a few extraordinary a-ha moments that seem amusing or extra to me. See what you think. I’m kicking off this stream of consciousness with this a-ha flatware observation…

If only our problems were limited to spoon disasters, right? Then I was thinking how cool it is to work for myself. No pipeline meetings. No quotas. No approvals. No updates. No kissing ass! But then I saw this gem. It appears that Charlie Munger has already nailed the reason people want to make as much money as possible. And hey, the Chuckster has a point. A-ha!

I think he’s onto something, right? Onto the rainbow spectrum. Colors are so funny. I never understood the difference between these two so I’m glad someone finally schooled me…

Children can teach us so much about life. Although they tend to parrot our behavior, sometimes they show us that they are wise beyond their years. This tot absolutely got it right!

Mistakes are part of our everyday lives of course. But there are steps we can take to protect ourselves. For instance, a lot of folks are nervous about traveling. There has been a rash of phones being stolen right out of tourists’s hands on the busy streets of London in broad daylight. And in Paris the metro is known to be a pickpocket paradise. We have all heard stories about valuable items missing from checked luggage too. But take a look at this brainiac who has permanently and hilariously solved the problem of a fanny pack being stolen. This is a great a-ha! Pure genius…

A-ha moments can come to you in a tense situation. But sometimes we are frozen or at a loss for words a la George Costanza from Seinfeld who would only come up with pithy replies or a mindbending revelation well after the incident passed. Did you know the French have a specific phrase for this that doesn’t even translate to English…

Other times we actually can source a great comeback but are too afraid to speak the truth. After eighty-six years, it’s refreshing to know that the Lion and the Tin Man actually took Dorothy’s heartfelt moment toward Scarecrow as a slight against them. Check out this hilarious a-ha response…

I loved that one! So clever. But on a serious note, I found the below to be unbelievably cool. This might be one of the greatest a-ha moments I’ve ever had. See if you agree…

This is a huge revelation for me. I know the whole look before you leap line, but sometimes you can’t know everything before the cliffside decision to go for it is in front of you. And it’s hard to assess just how big of a fall you might take if you don’t learn to fly. But I love that deciding to be ready is a choice. It’s pure confidence mixed with a dose of unwavering conviction coupled with some fear and a touch of momentary butterflies. But maybe that’s why the jump is so exhilarating? And once you’re airborne and achieving success, your dreams literally take flight.

A-ha moments can elicit a spectrum of reactions– emotional, scary, funny and thought provoking. And all of these unexpected revelations allow us to learn something through sudden insight or immediate discovery. I think that the very idea of an a-ha moment being life changing is incredible– a thought so powerful that it completely changes your perspective? How lucky are we to be paying such close attention! So as your daily progression toward absolute brilliance continues, be on the lookout for a revolutionary moment and be prepared to say a-ha!
