The challenge every year for a month long trip abroad is NOT to overpack. Yes, friends it’s Paris packing season once again. And I say season because it takes such a long time for me to make decisions. Knowing we have a washer in the flat is a great help. (Sadly no dryer this year so that should be interesting!) And the truth is that we could each bring one week’s worth of clothing and plan to do laundry… “could” being the operative word. But instead, the temptation to bring favorites, never-worns, debut items, and plenty of shoe options tug at my fashion sense and force me into a complete state of panic. What if I don’t have enough? What if it’s too hot? Too cold? I didn’t bring the correct outerwear? I misunderestimated the scarf situation? The pressure seems to be mounting. And the suitcase situation seems to be growing.

Having done this exact trip on similar dates in the past, I consider myself climate savvy when it comes to knowing what outfit aligns with sunny and 52 degrees versus a windy 45 degrees and cirrus clouds. You’d be surprised at the difference a little breeze makes when you’re living close to the Seine. And, indoor restaurants and shops do not ventilate in France the way we do in America. So the indoor temps tend to be way hotter and stuffier than one might expect, unless you bundle up and sit outside. Except if you’re expecting it like me. Overthinker alert!

So I have my packing cut out for me and hope to cut out many of my “oooh, maybe I’ll wear this” outfits in favor of wrinkle resistant layers that pair well with black leggings and cute sneakery options. I’m really trying to keep it simple but kept getting swept up into the “I’m going to Paris!” dream and picturing myself dancing with Michael in a big princess dress and outrageous heels with a fur stole and snowflakes glistening in my hair. Ya, time to wake up, doll. You don’t even own a dress like that so stop the shenanigans and start packing the Lulu.

In the non-clothing categories, I’ve already dedicated a bottom nightstand drawer to travel-sized toiletries so that I’m not scrambling at the last minute for a small hair mousse or a travel brush. And thanks to the considerable trips I’ve had for work, small soaps and mini shampoos have already found their way into the travel stash awaiting their final flight. They are currently keeping company with band-aids, Ziplocs, Tide pods, and a few rolls of good ol’ American toilet paper. Yes, that’s right. The Charmin-esque in France isn’t the same quality as the reliable TP we have here, so I’m dragging a few with me to ensure the comforts of home.

Knowing I might be slightly more indulgent than I have been lately (yeah, right) for this upcoming fantasy food trip, I’m even packing a few roomy tops and favorite stretchy bottoms. Because once I’m all packed up and ready to fly, I intend to enjoy every minute of the trip.

The suitcases are not yet closed, but the prep is most definitely in full swing. And I’ve never been more excited to pack it all in!
