Those F*cking Kids, December 18th

I know we are all conditioned NOT to laugh when a young kid uses an inappropriate word in a completely appropriate manner. We are not supposed to have a big reaction because this can encourage the wee one to keep using that “bad” word. But it’s hard to contain your hysterics when a small person seems irate and screams the F-word in public!

So many of these funny instances are now caught on camera or put into memes and then shared. Thank goodness the parents of these tots are brave enough to distribute these video clips and experiences. They are a riot.

I’ve never investigated where swear words have come from or how a word could be viewed so negatively… until now. According to Wikipedia, the F-word is an English language profanity which often refers to the act of sexual intercourse. However, it’s most commonly used as an intensifier or to convey distain. While the origin is obscure, claims consider 1475 A.D. to be the first attestment.

It is such a versatile word! It can be a noun, verb, adjective, interjection, adverb, or when it’s screamed solo I do believe you’ve got yourself a whole sentence right there. Common phrases and popular compounds include motherf*cker, f*ckwit, f*ckup, and f*ck off. My most common utterances tend to be f*uck no, what the actual f*ck, no f*cking way, and absof*ckinglutely. Fascinating, right?

But as far as kids are concerned, they just tend to repeat what you say.

You’ve probably heard that hilarious story that’s been floating around that took place in a Mexican restaurant. When the waiter came around to take the family’s drink order, the cutiepie five-year-old daughter pipes up with, “My Mom could really use a fucking margarita, dude.” Now where do you think she picked up that tidbit? Can you even imagine the look on the waiter’s face?! Or the Mom’s? I know, priceless.

Kids are not only little sponges, but they also tend to internalize the outside world and then improve upon it. Look how this genius student added to the English language with this valuable contribution…

The funny thing about kids too is that their pure innocence makes them the perfect audience for truth. You can ask them anything and instead of trying to spare your feelings with their answer, they are unabashedly honest.

Well I think I know where the adults of my generation have been groomed…

Using the F-word occasionally is not a bad thing and you’re not a bad person for using it. But if your young child curses in front of me, fuck yeah, I’m gonna laugh!
