The Sure Thing, May 8th

Do you remember the classic coming of age movie The Sure Thing? It was an iconic Rob Reiner film from good ol’ 1985 that became an instant hit. If you’ve never seen it or your memory is a little fuzzy because hey, it was the 80s and that was… (OMG) more than thirty years ago, it’s the story of a moderately cute New England freshman named Walter “Gib” Gibson played by the adorable John Cusack who finds himself down on his luck with women. Enter Gib’s best friend from high school Lance who decided to go to school on the west coast. It’s winter break and the premise of the movie is that Lance lures Gib cross country to California because he’s found a girl that promises to be a slam dunk, an absolute guarantee, in short, a “Sure Thing.”

So to entice him to make the harrowing journey all the way to California, Lance sends Gib a picture of a hot girl with the caption, “This is the ugliest girl in California.” I can never forget that image of a stunning Nicollette Sheridan on the postcard clad in a white bikini with one of those fashionable arm cuffs. She’s in a reclining position touting a flat stomach, perfect long blond tresses, the ultimate tan, sunnies, and a smokin hot body. Every guy wanted her and every girl wanted to look like her. The movie is hilarious and it turns out that in the end, Gib doesn’t need a sure thing. He figures out that he’s actually in love with Alison Bradbury, played by Daphne Zuniga, the girl he traveled cross country with. It’s funny, relatable, and heartwarming.

This reminds me of that old interview question, “What would you attempt to do if you knew you couldn’t fail?” For me, Noom is a sure thing… I am enjoying great success with this weight loss program and I’m 100% convinced that not only will I hit my goal, but I can’t possibly fail. For me it’s a sure thing. How can I claim this and be so absolutely sure? Easy! Because this program actually works. I follow the calorie guide and lose weight. Does the number fluxuate slightly some days due to water intake and a minor scale imbalance? Sure. When I travel, often times I’m awake for an extended period of time and might actually eat more than my allotment of calories due to time zone challenges. But I still weigh in every single day to stay on track. I don’t get discouraged either because I have past success as my proof of concept so I stick with it. And each week I’m getting closer to my goal which is super motivating.

So what would you do if a sure thing was in your future?
If I can do THIS, you can do THAT!
