What A Difference A Day Makes, January 10th

Ever have one of those weekends where you’re up early on Saturday roaring with energy? You have an errand list a mile long and manage to tackle changing the sheets and three loads of laundry (including the dreaded fitted sheet fold) while you tally and submit your business expenses from your corporate card and do a few clean up tasks at your workstation to ensure an easy Monday as the dryer cycle spins away in the background.

You empty garbage pails from all the rooms, do a fast spritz of all surfaces, Swiffer the floors, drag the pile of dry cleaning nine blocks to your guy, squeeze in some light food shopping, grab money at the ATM, do a quick bounce into Bed Bath for this and that, and spontaneously try on something that caught your eye in one of the small shops on your way home only to discover that it fits perfectly and it’s on sale (small victories every day)… all before noon!

After which you putter around the house, throw on a scarf because you see the wind picked up a bit and venture back out to meet a friend for lunch. She has errands to do after the meal so you tag along and stumble across a cute spatula, sparkly earrings, and gloves with the pointer touch pads so that you can still type while staying warm. You get home, grab a quick nap, change, zhuzh your hair, and it’s back out for cocktails and dinner with your beau.

And then on Sunday, like a speeding freight train must have hit you head-on while you slept, you absolutely cannot move a single muscle; not one. Even picking up your phone seems like exercise. At no time during the day do you even consider a shower. You lounge in PJs, have a meal in bed with the covers pulled way up and have to take an early afternoon nap just to make it through the day while your mac and cheese dish sits crusting on your nightstand. Who has the energy to go back into the kitchen?

And you ask yourself, “Aren’t you that gal from yesterday flying around the City at record speed smashing all land and sea records for most accomplished in a day?” But of course you’re too tired to answer so you pick another movie and just lay like a lox. Does this sound like you? Or is it just moi??

I feel like a bi-polar bear. Some days I’m a bundle of energy and others I’m happy to completely hibernate. On the resting days, I’m lucky if I have enough energy to even make a list. Charging my phone requires dexterity I just don’t have. Reheating leftovers seems too complicated and do they reaaaaally taste that different right out of the fridge? I think not.

Thank goodness Michael is a go with the flow kind of guy and we’re in total synch when it comes to lazy Sundays and go all out Saturdays. Unfortunately this past Sunday he decided to shower about 4:30pm, completely throwing me off my game. So as not to be a total slob, I caved and also showered about 5. When I emerged from the bathroom looking refreshed and clean, he was way under the covers completely passed out! I didn’t want to miss out on the napportunity, so I snuggled up next to him and joined him in a relaxing Sunday snooze. (Napportunity. Word coined by Jen Rabinowitz, 2022. Noun. Definition: An unexpected but welcome chance for some much-needed shut-eye.)

The great thing about the weekend is that there are two days to do what you like. And oh what a difference a day can make!
