What Happens In Vegas? December 1st

You’ve all heard the hilarious and provocative tagline, “What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas.” So I’m asking the question, do people know what really happens there? I’ve been to Sin City at least ten times. My first experience was as a teenager on a teen tour of the U.S. It was a fabulous seven weeks of half camping and half hotels and we traveled by what appeared to be a big luxury bus. By the third hour of the full summer tour, that bus was small, stinky, and cramped. But we pressed on. Some of the campgrounds on which we tented were gorgeous! I’ll never forget literally sleeping under the starts in Alamogordo, New Mexico. The sky was a like a planetarium right above our heads! Some of the hotels were nice. I remember Phoenix being particularly lux. But some of the hotels were outright frightening. And Vegas was the absolute worst.

When we bunked, we had two to a room, each camper having her/his own bed. Vegas was no exception, but we did have some unwanted company for that particular overnight. When I went into the bathroom to wash up before bed I personally witnessed bugs crawling out of the drain in the bathtub! I screamed that blood curdling murder scream for which I’m famous and warned my roommate that the bathroom was off limits. We ended up blasting the music all night, kept the lights on, ran the faucet in the sink and the tub simultaneously, and opted to sleep with our shoes on in case one of us desperately needed to pee while the other was sleeping. It was quite an experience!

My subsequent visits were much better. I saw several shows, with “O” being the coolest. I’ve won some pesos– not many since I never put that much on the line to start with but if you must know I favor roulette and blackjack. I’ve shopped in all the luxury malls and fancy stores– leaving with just one handbag for all of my searching during all of my visits and I feel super glam every time I wear it. I was once upgraded to a huge suite at The Paris that had several bathrooms and a dining room table which seated twelve comfortably. And no, no visitors graced the tubs nor the table that trip. Whew! I’ve had many a fabulous meal at a smattering of the celebrity chef-owned establishments including Yellowtail and the Big Eye Tuna Pizza is most definitely a game changer. I even saw the movie Avatar in IMAX 3-D there when it first premiered!

Mostly Vegas is a place where throngs of groupies come to watch a guest DJ at a swanky club, or pre-wedding couples visit for one last hurrah with each of their bridal parties. Some people come to bet on sports and others just want to enjoy the scorching Nevada sun by one of the fabulous hotel pools. Many conferences are held in Vegas for the multitude of rooms, and variety of activities offered. Vegas is most certainly an oasis in the desert. But now some of her secrets are out!

So if you visit, but you’re trying to keep your escapades on the down low, don’t worry. What happens in Vegas… well now you know! (Wink)
