When I first became aware of the brand Love Shack Fancy it immediately reminded me of my awkward teenage years when I was obsessed with frilly dresses from the now defunct brand Gunne Sax. Back in the day, Gunne Sax was known for their flowy dresses, lacy hems, puffy sleeves, peter pan collars, quilted vests, and lots of button detailing. Are ya getting a visual here? Soooo 80s! At the time I thought they were gorgeous and so very glam!

I even sported a maroon number with tiny flowers and a tie in the front vest for my Bat Mitzvah! Certainly the pinnacle of my 13-year-old life. And yes, buffalo sandals were my first choice to go with, however my stylish Mother talked me into open toe, suede winter heels with slim straps that picked up the wine tones in the tea length twirler. She was such a fashion maven, still is! Thanks. Mom.

As an adult, I try to be careful about wearing too much fluff, frill, sparkle, spangle, and pattern, especially all at once. I usually leave big floral patterns to the NYC tourists and the layered minis or fringe to the toddler and tiaras sect. But I do sometimes have slight envy when a frilly frock passes me at Starbucks, regardless of the wearer’s age. But I just can’t pull some of it off anymore, and I’m not going to try. So I settle for a delicate sleeve, or a small ruffled hem or a fun seam on a t-shirt. Quiet details instead of barking loud trim is more my speed now.

I did buy three gold stretchy bracelets from Love Shack two years ago. And although they aren’t frilly, the super shiny beads of gold look très fancy on my adorned wrist, especially since they look plentiful in the trio. So maybe I’ve graduated from a frill seeking adolescent to a golden girl? If so, I think I’m cool with that.
